FOUNDATION OF OUR FAITH

Jesus Christ sacrificed his life for us to offer us salvation and rose three days later so that we can live a life knowing that our sins have been paid for. God has given us grace so that we can inherit eternal life through the Messiah - the Christ.

Who is Jesus?

In Hebrew, Jesus was referred to as Yeshua Mashiach – Jesus Christ. The name put together means "the anointed saviour", that alone, explains who Jesus is. As believers, we believe that Jesus is the begotten son of God. The second part of the Godhead. Our King of kings. We believe that he is God who came in human form to save us from our sins (Matthew 1:21) and restore the relationship between us and God the father. When we read the bible from Genesis to Revelation – from beginning to end, then we will come to understand why this had to happen.

What is salvation?

Do you know that Christianity is the only 'religion' that does not rely on our works to be saved? That is, regardless of how good we are on earth, it is only by God's grace we are saved. It is pretty much impossible for us, as humans, to be made right with God because regardless of how good we are, we almost always counteract our 'good' with sin. So in essence, although we may be 'good' for an extended period, we ruin it by being 'bad' later down the line. God is holy. To be holy means "to be exalted, set apart or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness". God is so perfect in every way that he has to be set apart from humans - who harbour sin, corruption and impurity. However, for the sole reason that he loves us so dearly and wants a relationship with us, he came down in human form to rid our sins and restore the relationship we once had with him in the Garden of Eden.

To be saved, we cannot save ourselves. Only God can save humanity. God cannot send an angel because angels are creatures like us. He cannot send man because all men are the same and all men sin. So again, then how can we be saved? Somebody who is God must become human to be able to intervene and give us salvation. If Jesus isn't fully God, then he cannot save us, and he cannot reveal God. But if Jesus isn't fully human, then he can't fully reveal God to humans. Without Jesus, none of us would be able to be made right with God because of sin. And if we think about it, there would be no way for us to be made right with God by our own means - we sin all the time, and therefore we would never be holy enough to enter in God's presence.

What is perfect grace?

The grace given to us is perfect because it is so simple to acquire, and it does not have any loopholes. All you need to do is believe and obey. God did not have to come to earth to restore the relationship between man and God - but he did. Grace is the unmerited, undeserved, unearned, kindness and favour of God that has been given to us. We did not earn this (Romans 11:6). It is a free gift from God and therefore is not based on our works (Ephesians 2:8-10). We live our lives everyday by the grace of God, his forgiveness covers all multitude of sin we commit whether knowingly or unknowingly and extends his salvation over us (Titus 2:11).

What is eternal life?

Eternal life is the blessings and benefits that come with knowing Christ. Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Eternal life encompasses both quality and quantity (fullness) of life. Not only does it allude to the everlasting life that is to come in the Kingdom of God (1 Thessalonians 4:17) it speaks about the fullness of life that comes from knowing the son - Jesus Christ. Many verses in the Bible highlight that only when we know Christ will we have eternal life - “And this is what God has testified: he has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son“ - 1 John 5:11. God has freely given us the gift of eternal life, and it is up to us to put our faith in Christ and accept it.
